Portland Camera Club's Online Gallery
at SmugMug
The Online Gallery
The Portland Camera Club now has a web
gallery at Smugmug. The club's online gallery can be found here: http://portlandcc.smugmug.com/ For now, the plans are to use this site for the digital
competition (and possibly displaying print competition winners), photos
of club activities, and some limited photo sharing. This site is mainly
a way to display the club's images. If you have any questions or suggestions about the
online gallery, please let Mike Cempa know. The online gallery was donated to the club by SmugMug,
a very customizable photo sharing/storing site.
Online Competitions
Competitor ID: Each member must register once via e-mail to receive a competitor ID. This is a one-time requirement. Send an email message to pccdigital@maine.rr.com and include your name and preferred class (A or B). You will then receive an e-mail with your competitor ID.
The monthly themes have been announced for 2008-09: click here.
How to Enter a Monthly Online Competition:
- Each member may enter 1 image.
- The image must be in jpg format.
- Image size: maximum width is 1024 pixels, maximum height is 768 pixels. Images can be less than the maximums (for example, 500px width by 733px height). Note: to check your image size in Photoshop, click on Image/Image Size and refer to the Width and Height fields. In the example shown below, the image is at the max width and height.

- Make sure the image's file (the .jpg file) size is 500kb or less.
- Rename your image file to ###_title.jpg, for example, 999_harpswell_sunset.jpg. Put your competitor ID number first, then the image title. Use the underscore character instead of blank spaces (the filename must not have any blank spaces).
- To submit your entry, attach the image file to an email message, and type contest in the subject line (this must be exact and all lower case contest, not Contest). Leave the body of the email blank. See example below.
Send the email to portlandcc@email.smugmug.com

- Deadlines for each monthly contest will be the first day of the month (specifically 11:59 p.m. on the first). Entries for the following month will be accepted beginning a few days after the first (Mike Cempa will announce this on the club's Yahoo forum).
- Judging will be done anonymously via the website and e-mail. Judges
will be encouraged to post comments and critique online. Also, the winners
will be announced and critiqued on digital night of that month, which is usually the 3rd Monday of the month.
Also, it is suggested you calibrate your monitor (an external device
like the Spyder or Huey is recommended, however, even a simple run through
Adobe Gamma is likely to help). Naturally, we cannot ever be sure that
all our displays are calibrated the same, but, we should all be fairly
close if we try.
